Pacifica Graduate Institute

Pacifica Graduate Institute is a private, accredited institution of higher learning in California. Established in 1981, it provides an atmosphere that is culturally sensitive, appreciates racial and ethnic uniqueness, and affirms diverse lifestyles. The institute’s 13-acre campus lies on Lambert Road in Carpinteria, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands. The nearby campus of La Casa de Maria Retreat Center on Ladera Lane also holds several of its programs. Master's degrees are awarded in Counseling Psychology and Mythology, and Ph.D.s are granted in Depth Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Mythology. Here, the science of psychology is enhanced by the study of the world's literature, religion, art, mythology, and social issues. The current enrollment is approximately 420 and student housing is available for 36. Students are eligible for federal aid, such as Pell Grants and Direct Loans from the U.S. Department of Education. The Institute is also the site of the Joseph Campbell & Marija Gimbutas Library, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to the preservation of a unique collection of books, manuscripts, and memorabilia from esteemed cultural scholars of different centuries.
